Real experts who improve any home project – Elegant Additions knows how to tell the difference
When you meet the best, you know it. The way he looks. The feeling to the touch. The way it works. You may not be able to indicate exactly Why it’s the best, but you know, intuitively. And that feeling is one of the ingredients of a life well lived.
This describes Elegant Additions to a Tee, the authority on plumbing fixtures, lighting and door hardware that has provided designers, builders and homeowners with one of the most exclusive material listings for over 50 years. 35 years.
Want the most elegant door handles and hinges ever to come out of France? How about the handcrafted faucets in Williamsburg, Brooklyn? Copper bathtubs of the most sublime shape? Of course you are, and Elegant Additions can get you all of these things and more, as the company has relationships with almost every name worth knowing, including Barber Wilsons & Co., John Pawson, THG Paris, Turnstyle Designs, Vola, Armac Martin, Gessi, Kast and William Holland.
Simply put, if Elegant Additions can’t satisfy your every whim, no one can.
Julie Koch, the owner and visionary behind Elegant Additions, is among the best in the business, but she entered the industry purely by accident – a fluke that has benefited thousands of satisfied customers.
Koch used to work in the advertising sales world and was doing well, but the business owner ran away with the funds and Koch found herself unexpectedly unemployed. At the time, an acquaintance in the early stages of building a decorative valve business peppered her with questions about the process, and the next thing Koch knew she was a partner in what would become Elegant Additions, which was founded in 1986.
As with most businesses, Elegant Additions’ early years were marked by sleepless nights, plenty of on-the-job training, and a steep learning curve for Koch, who knew absolutely nothing about plumbing or plumbing. accessories. To make matters worse, his partner, three years later, told him one day without warning that he found the business too stressful and that he would be leaving it. He had only given her 48 hours’ notice, so Koch had a decision to make.
âI really never thought about quitting,â says the irrepressible Koch. âBills and investors had to be paid, and I was newly single. The show had to go on!
Fast forward 32 years later – and many challenges overcome, including the advent of the internet and the effect it has had on sales and customer relationships – and Koch has a winner in his hands, without talk about showrooms in Houston and Dallas (look for the new âdesign your ownâ Dallas Design Lab coming soon), a dedicated and professional team of designers and business associates, and those thousands of satisfied customers.
Additionally, Elegant Additions recently partnered with two industry stars and will represent them only in Houston and Dallas.
Waterworks is one of the most sought-after suppliers of high-end accessories and products for baths, spas, kitchens and other spaces that make humans happy and productive, and COCOON designs and creates timeless pieces whose function and form represent holistic perfection. Both companies chose Elegant Additions as their partner because, well, they only work with the best. (If the names John Pawson, Piet Boon, or ASH NYC mean anything to you, you are now very excited.)
Now let’s ask Julie Koch a few questions to tap into her expertise and find out more:
Tell me about a design trend that you are passionate about?
Julie Koch: The trend that excites me the most are actually two. The new hot finish (yes, anything old is new again) is the use of white for the faucets and fittings. This is nothing new, just coming back to the top of the color wheel for faucets and bathroom accessories. The new finishes are durable, easy to clean and, when done with the help of a designer, beautiful.
What makes Elegant Additions unique?
JK: You speak, we listen. You said you wanted an exceptional selection experience curated by a knowledgeable, skilled and professional sales associate. We give you that and more.
We work where you are. Since 1987, we have worked in Texas, the Southwest and beyond. We can handle your work, no matter where it is.
Our showrooms are an unmissable experience. They are relaxing, beautifully appointed, modern, easy to use and feature a variety of unique and exclusive fixtures.
Let’s see your five tips for successful bathroom projects?
JK: Never go it alone. It pays to invest in success and hire a designer or architect to walk you through the spaces and help bring it all together. In the end, you will spend less.
Never buy on the Internet. Find a showroom like ours with a huge bank of plumbing and hardware history and knowledge. We have been doing this for 35 years, and it is important. Too many moving parts and water is leaking through your wall. Why, why, why do people want to try and save money on the Internet when it comes to water?
Find pictures of things you love, share them with the person helping you, then let them do their job. Remember you hired them for a reason.
Find products that are timeless, not trendy. Trendy dates your home faster than anything.
Stick to the three basic finishes when possible: Unpainted Brass, Polished Nickel, and Polished Chrome.
Tell me about one of your favorite commissions or projects?
JK: It was a glass house on a ranch. Why my favorite? Because when the spaces are fully visible, each piece has to be perfect for the space. The kitchen, the baths, the bar, all in full screen. It wasn’t huge, but it was absolutely perfect. We care about the details of every project and are not cookie-cutter designs. You walk into some houses and you know exactly where things are coming from. We don’t want that for our customers.
