One of the users, who is also diabetic, shouted and commented, “As a fellow T1 diabetic (and ex-model) THANK YOU for wearing your device on the scary trail! You are a queen and I want these photos everywhere because the more we share T1 diabetes the better.

Type 1 diabetes, according to reports from MayoClinic, is a condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin and often begins in childhood.

As reported by Indianexpress.com, here is an overview of type 1 diabetes.

How does an insulin pump help patients with type 1 diabetes?

Every type 1 diabetic patient can use the insulin pump. Using an infusion set, this pump can be attached to the body.

“This device is computerized and helps deliver insulin through a thin tube that goes under your skin. If you are using a pump, you will need fewer needle sticks. You need an injection every few days, after which you change the infusion set. Compared to injections, the pump is precise and may be of benefit in maintaining proper sugar levels. You can easily manage meals, exercise and high blood sugar in the early morning – known as the dawn phenomenon. Insulin pump therapy has grown in popularity now, ”Dr. Pritam Moon, consulting physician at Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road, told indianexpress.com.

How to use the pump?

“The infusion set consists of a thin tube and a needle or a conical tube placed under the skin. It is advisable to place it on the stomach, buttocks or even the thigh, ”Dr. Atul Luthra, additional director, diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic disorders, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, told indianexpress.com.

Who is it recommended for?

As stated, Dr Luthra indicated that an insulin pump is recommended for people who:

  • Observe high levels of blood sugar fluctuations
  • Are unable to find the correct dose of insulin to control blood sugar
  • Having a busy life where it is difficult to find the time to inject insulin
